CANADIAN HOCKEY LEAGUE PRIVACY POLICY
This Privacy Policy describes the manner in which the Canadian Hockey League and its affiliates, Member Leagues, and Teams (collectively, the “Canadian Hockey League”, “CHL”, “we”, “our” and “us”) collect, use, and disclose personal information through our interactions with you and through our products, services, official website (the “CHL Site”), official mobile app, and any other online service that displays or provides an authorized link to this Privacy Policy (collectively, the “Services”).
The official webpages for the Member Leagues and all Teams of the Canadian Hockey League are part of the CHL Site and are governed by this Privacy Policy.
For the purposes of this policy:
- “Personal information” means information about an individual that can be used to identify them.
- “Member Leagues” means the Western Hockey League (WHL), Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), which are all part of the Canadian Hockey League.
- “Teams” means all hockey teams that are affiliated with any Member League within the Canadian Hockey League.
By using our Services and/or providing your personal information to us in connection with any of the Services, you acknowledge that you have read this Privacy Policy, accept all of the terms and conditions herein, and consent to the collection, use and disclosure of your personal information as described in this Policy.
COLLECTION OF PERSONAL INFORMATION
When you interact with the Canadian Hockey League through our Services, we may collect data including personal information from you or from other sources.
The user information collected by the Canadian Hockey League includes the following:
- Contact and personal information that we collect directly from you when you interact with our Services. This data may vary, but will typically include your name, mailing address, email address, and any other personal information that you provide to us through, for instance, customer service inquiries or other feedback.
- User credentials, including username, password, password hints and other security information used to create an account and authenticate users of the Services.
- Device and usage data in connection with your use of the CHL Site and mobile app. Device data includes such as the type of device, operating system installed on the device, device settings, IP address, and device identifiers; usage data includes the programs and features you access, the items you purchase, and the duration and frequency of your browsing activity. Please see the section below entitled “Cookies, Web Beacons, and Other Technologies” for further details.
- Payment information, such as credit card information and billing address.
- Activity information, such as the content of searches you perform on the website.
- Information about your interests and preferences, such as your communications preferences. In addition to what you provide directly, we may infer your interests and preferences from other data collected through the CHL Site and mobile app as described in this Privacy Policy.
- Third party integrations. If you connect your use of the Services through a third-party (including a social media platform), the third-party may share certain information from your third-party account with us. As their practices may differ, we recommend you consult their privacy policies for details on what information they may transfer or disclose to CHL.
- Other third-party data, such as data from our affiliates, partners or vendors, data brokers or public sources. For example, we receive personal information from our online ticketing partners (e.g., Ticketmaster or individual venues) in accordance with their own privacy policies and agreements, so we can see who has bought tickets to which game. We also receive personal information from the e-commerce platforms that sell official CHL Team merchandise, which can include your purchase history and payment information. We recommend that you consult the privacy policies of these websites for further information on their information-sharing practices.
The CHL, the Member Leagues, and the Teams have harmonized their Privacy Policies such that all Member Leagues, Teams, and the CHL may collect personal information from each other for any of the purposes set out below. Please see the section below entitled “Sharing and Disclosure of Personal Information” for further details.
USE OF PERSONAL INFORMATION
The Canadian Hockey League, its Member Leagues and its Teams do not use your personal information for any purposes other than those described below. The CHL, a Member League, or a Team will ask for your separate consent if it wishes to use your information for any other purpose(s).
These purposes are:
- providing you with the products, promotions, services, newsletters, and information you request and responding to correspondence that we receive from you;
- contacting you via email and otherwise about your account, products, services, contests, and events that we think might be of interest to you;
- sending you promotional material or special offers on our behalf or on behalf of our marketing partners and/or their respective affiliates and other third parties (you may choose not to receive such offers);
- processing transactions, creating accounts, providing technical and customer support, administering participation in our events and promotions, and otherwise providing the Services to you;
- maintaining or administering the Services, performing business analyses, conducting analytics and market research and identifying other audiences with similar interests, or for other internal purposes to improve the quality of our business, the Services, the CHL Site, and other products and services we offer;
- Protect our users, Teams, and Member Leagues by enhancing our ability to detect and prevent fraud and potentially illegal activities in connection with our Services; and
- customizing and personalizing your use of the Services.
The Canadian Hockey League does not intentionally collect, use or disclose personal information of persons under the age of 14 years old except as permitted by applicable law. If we discover that we have collected personal information from a person under the age of 14 years old other than as permitted by applicable law, we will delete it. If you believe that a child under your guardianship has provided their personal information to us without consent, please contact us.
DE-IDENTIFICATION OF PERSONAL INFORMATION
We may de-identify any personal information that we collect so that it no longer can be used to identify you or any other individual. We may then use and disclose it to conduct analytics and research, in accordance with all applicable privacy laws and regulations.
SHARING AND DISCLOSURE OF PERSONAL INFORMATION
Sharing Internally between Member Leagues and Teams
Your information may be shared internally within the Canadian Hockey League between representatives of different Member Leagues and Teams, each of whom is part of the CHL and is governed by this Privacy Policy. The CHL, Member Leagues, and Teams may share information with each other for the following purposes:
- To conduct data analytics, consumer and/or market research related to our Services. This may involve merging personal information derived from multiple sources, including Member Leagues and Teams, for profile compilation purposes.
- To utilize data analytics, consumer and/or market research for the purpose of improving our Services.
- To send tailored communications and other marketing messages to select recipients about our Services and other offers.
- To meet legal obligations and manage risk to health, safety, our properties or our personnel.
Sharing and Disclosing to Third Parties
We will only share and disclose your personal information to parties outside of the Canadian Hockey League as set out in this Policy, or otherwise with your explicit prior consent.
We may share or disclose personal information to the following categories of third parties for the purposes described below.
Service Providers. In connection with the provision of our Services, we may share personal information to our third-party service providers that support our business operations, who use the information on our behalf to provide us with the following services:
- Processing payments (e.g., from ticket sales).
- Hosting the CHL Site (including CHL TV and the Member League and Team sites).
- Assisting in the delivery of our Services.
- Storing and protecting our data.
- Conducting market studies and data analytics.
- Marketing and promoting our Services.
Our service providers are given only the information they need to perform their designated functions on our behalf, and they are never authorized to use or disclose your personal information for any other purposes.

We take all reasonable measures to help ensure that these third parties protect the confidentiality, integrity, and security of any information we disclose to them. Where required by law, we will ask for your consent before sharing information with these third parties. In other cases, we rely on your consent through this Privacy Policy and you always have the option to withdraw your consent at any time. Third-Party Advertising and Web Analytics Partners. Some of the content, advertising and functionality on our Services (including the CHL Site and mobile app) may be provided by our third-party advertising and web analytics partners.
We disclose personal information about your online activities to such partners (either alone or in combination with information collected by cookies, as detailed in the section below entitled “Cookies, Web Beacons, and Other Technologies”). Both we and our partners may use this information to perform analytics about your use of the Site and the mobile app and to serve you with personalized advertisements. Our partners may use the Personal Information we provide to them for their own purposes (including advertising) as well.
These partners are:

- Protect the legal rights, safety, and security of the Canadian Hockey League, our affiliates, subsidiaries, business partners and the users of our Services;

Cross-border transfers
Your personal information may be transferred to, stored in, or otherwise handled in jurisdictions outside of your home province or outside of Canada, where we have service providers or third-party partners operating in such jurisdictions. When your personal information is handled outside of your home jurisdiction, it may be subject to lawful access by the regulatory, government, or law enforcement authorities of that jurisdiction. When we transfer your personal information outside of your home province or outside of Canada, we will take reasonable steps to protect your information in accordance with applicable data protection laws and this Privacy Policy.
LINKS TO THIRD PARTY WEBSITES
Our website may contain links to other websites or platforms that the Canadian Hockey League does not own or operate. Also, links to our website may be featured on third party websites or platforms on which we advertise. This includes links to third-party websites selling tickets to Canadian Hockey League games and events and/or merchandise related to the Canadian Hockey League, its Member Leagues and its Teams.
Except as provided in this Privacy Policy, we will not provide your personal information to these third parties without your consent. We may provide links to third party websites or platforms as a convenience to the user. These links are not intended as an endorsement of or referral to the linked websites or platforms.
The linked websites or platforms have separate and independent privacy statements, notices and terms of use, unless otherwise stated. We do not have any control over such websites or platforms, and therefore we have no responsibility or liability for the manner in which the organizations that operate such linked websites or platforms may collect, use or disclose, secure and otherwise treat personal information.
COOKIES, WEB BEACONS AND OTHER TECHNOLOGIES
Our Services may use online technologies called “cookies” and “web beacons”, as well as other local storage technologies to collect information about your device and browsing activity.

SECURITY OF PERSONAL INFORMATION
We understand that data security is a critical issue for our users, and we are committed to safeguarding your personal information.
The Canadian Hockey League has implemented reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards designed to protect against the loss, theft, and unauthorized access, use, modification, destruction, interference, or disclosure of the personal information in our custody and control.

The Canadian Hockey League, its Member Leagues and its Teams will only send you direct electronic offers, updates, newsletters, and/or promotional material if you have opted in to receiving them. You always have the right to opt out of receiving such messages at any time. The instructions for opting out will be provided in the form of easy-to-follow unsubscribe directions in the messages themselves. Access to and correction of your personal information
You have the right to request access to the personal information the Canadian Hockey League maintains about you at any time.
While we make reasonable efforts to ensure that any personal information we maintain about you is accurate and up to date, you are responsible for updating the Canadian Hockey League about any changes to your personal information that can affect our provision of the Services to you. If the personal information we maintain about you is inaccurate or incomplete, you have the right to request a correction of your information at any time.

CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY
This Privacy Policy may be updated periodically to reflect changes to our personal information practices and/or the laws applicable to same. The revised Privacy Policy will be posted on the website. If we make any substantial changes to the way in which we handle your personal information, we will take reasonable measures to notify you.
